A GROWING CITY NEEDS STABILITY IN ITS LEADERSHIP!

The Honorable Carrie Forney Gordon, PhD served as Mayor of Balch Springs, TX, May 2009 – May 2015. In May 2020, at the request of the City Council, Dr. Gordon was appointed to a 1-year term. She had no idea the term of office would be extended an additional 2-years as an unopposed Mayoral candidate. Before entering politics, Dr. Gordon spent her professional career in Urban Planning with the City of Dallas, TX 30 years.

As a leader in her Balch Springs community, Dr. Gordon served as Co-Chair of her Homeowners Association; Chair and Vice-Chair of the City of Balch Springs Planning and Zoning Commission; Chair of the 2002 and 2008 Charter Review Commissions; and Chair of the Balch Springs Chamber of Commerce. To give back to her community, she assisted with an update to the City of Balch Springs Master Plan and prepared the Balch Springs East Annexation Area Plan (City Council adopted).

After retiring from the City of Dallas and completing a final term of office in 2015, Dr. Gordon served as City Administrator in Wilmer, TX. From there, she provided consulting services in zoning until returning to Balch Springs as Mayor, her calling.

Dr. Gordon possesses a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, Master of Arts in Political Economy, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Administration and Management. She is a professional songwriter and recording artist, manage her son Larry Gordon II (recording artist and songwriter with Curb Records|Word Entertainment (Nashville-Los Angeles).
